THE APRIL GUIDE
Understand the material behind the bright, colorless look.
Start with the recipient’s expectations
Ask whether they want diamond specifically.
Diamond is April’s birthstone. The designs in this edit use alternatives including moissanite, cubic zirconia (CZ) and white zircon. Each should be chosen and given under its own accurate material name.
If the recipient wants diamond specifically, clarify that before choosing an alternative. If they enjoy the design and appearance, compare the complete piece: dimensions, metal, fit and any included chain.
Diamond and three alternatives
Similar-looking stones can be different materials.
Natural and laboratory-grown diamond are both diamond. Moissanite, CZ and zircon have different compositions; a bright photograph does not establish identity.
| Detail | Material identity | Buying note |
|---|---|---|
| Diamond | Natural and laboratory-grown diamond share the diamond crystal structure; their growth histories differ. | Diamond is April’s birthstone. The current pieces above are labeled alternatives. |
| Moissanite | Silicon carbide; a separate gemstone from diamond. | Read the actual dimensions, setting and origin description. |
| CZ | Cubic zirconia, a manufactured zirconium oxide material. | Check center and accent stones separately; CZ is not laboratory-grown diamond. |
| White zircon | Colorless zircon, a different mineral from cubic zirconia. | The similar names do not mean the same material or the same care needs. |
Our April materials comparison explains the distinctions in detail. Reference: GIA diamond and simulant guide.
Compare complete designs
A stone name alone does not set the price.
Consider the metal, construction, stone dimensions, fastening and what comes with the piece. Color names for a metal option should be read alongside its base-metal and finish description.
A close-up cannot show exact scale. Check the measurements and use our size guide. For the birthday connection, see the April birthstone overview.
Care follows the materials
Scratch resistance is different from impact resistance.
Even a hard stone can chip from a strong blow. The setting and daily activities matter, so remove rings for rough work and inspect vulnerable edges and prongs.
White zircon needs protection from abrasion; ultrasonic and steam cleaning are not recommended. Follow the most restrictive instructions for the complete design and our care guide. Stone-care reference: GIA zircon care.
April birthstone questions
Are these pieces diamond jewelry?
The current April edit contains moissanite, CZ and white-zircon alternatives. Check each listing’s full materials, including accent stones; an April collection label does not make a stone diamond.
Is laboratory-grown diamond the same as CZ?
No. Laboratory-grown diamond is diamond. CZ has a different composition and crystal structure.
Is white zircon another name for cubic zirconia?
No. Zircon and cubic zirconia are different materials. Ask for clarification if a description mixes the names.
Can moissanite be an April birthday gift?
Yes, when the recipient would enjoy it and it is clearly described as moissanite. Diamond remains April’s birthstone.
