THE JANUARY GUIDE
Choose garnet by color, fit and the way it will be worn.
Choose a garnet gift with confidence
Use the wearer’s habits as your starting point.
January’s birthstone is garnet. Our current January edit focuses on red garnet, with a reversible pendant necklace and a ring set. Start with the format the recipient already enjoys, then compare the listed dimensions and metal finish.
If their ring size is unknown, a pendant can reduce one uncertainty. Check the chain length and what is included, rather than relying on a close-up photograph. Use the size guide before choosing.
A garnet necklace or a ring?
Fit and daily routine can decide the better gift.
Neither format is automatically the right choice. Think about where the piece will sit and how often the wearer uses their hands for demanding activities.
| Detail | Garnet pendant or necklace | Garnet ring |
|---|---|---|
| Fit | Check chain length, pendant dimensions and whether a chain is included. | Confirm the actual ring size and the dimensions of the complete design. |
| Routine | Usually encounters fewer hand-level knocks; still needs careful wear. | More exposed to knocks, tools and hard surfaces; remove for rough activities. |
| Style | Compare the scale with a neckline and a necklace already worn often. | Look at the profile and how the design sits beside other rings. |
| Choose when | They enjoy necklaces and you can confirm a comfortable length. | They prefer rings, the size is known and the care routine fits. |

Garnet is more than deep red
The mineral family also includes orange and green.
Garnet occurs in several colors, including orange spessartine, green tsavorite and demantoid, and purplish-red rhodolite. These describe the wider gemstone family; they are not a list of colors available in this collection.
Compare images in ordinary light and read the stone’s identity. Color and photographs alone cannot establish variety, treatment history or origin. The January birthstone overview introduces the month’s gemstone.
Garnet and everyday wear
Scratch resistance is only part of durability.
Garnet’s Mohs hardness is about 6.5–7.5, depending on variety. A stone can still be damaged by a hard knock, so consider a protective setting and remove rings for exercise, gardening or work with tools.
Clean only as appropriate for the complete piece and follow our care guide. Steam cleaning is not recommended for garnet; ask for advice if a stone is loose or its treatment is unclear. Stone-care reference: GIA.
January birthstone questions
Is garnet January’s birthstone?
Yes. Garnet is January’s birthstone, and the month connection includes the garnet family’s different colors. Our current January selection focuses on red designs.
Does a January gift have to use red garnet?
No. Other accurately identified garnet colors can carry the same January connection. Choose a color the recipient enjoys and confirm what is actually offered.
Can a garnet ring be worn every day?
It can suit regular wear with care, but it needs protection from knocks and abrasion. The setting, the garnet variety and the wearer’s activities matter.
What if I do not know their ring size?
Consider a necklace if that is a format they wear. Confirm the length and pendant scale, and review current delivery and return conditions before ordering a gift.
